At the fair, I was responsible for helping run a booth that showcased different computer science classes, projects, and the pathways in computer science for incoming freshmen and sophomores. They asked many questions about the programs, its implications, and my recommendations on the course programs. I was just to happy my knowledge and help out the incoming freshmen explore new opportunities for high school.
Not only did I have the chance to share my knowledge with others, I also learned a lot from the other students and teachers. I was able to ask questions, listen in on their discussions, and learn about the changes to the computer science programs, most significantly a shift to python from java in CS2, and the potential expansion of that into CS3. I gained valuable insights our schools programs, and was only encouraged to pursue this field..
One of the most rewarding moments of the fair was when incoming freshmen came to me and asked about computer science & math courses at the freshmen center, and at the main campus. I was able to provide them with guidance, and encourage them to explore, and familiarize themselves with the programs our school offered. It was a heartfelt moment, knowing that I was helping these students, hopefully making a difference in their lives, just as others have made a difference in mine.
